I want to take language lessons. What do I need to do?
It’s very simple. Choose your favourite teacher from the list of Learnissimo teachers. Reserve your next lesson with your teacher by consulting his or her availability schedule. At the date and time of your lesson, click on “enter my classroom” in your personal space. Your teacher will be waiting for you: the lesson can now begin!
Can I have several teachers?
Yes, of course. You can for example take English conversation classes with a teacher in New York and grammar lessons with a teacher in Liverpool. By choosing several teachers (therefore several availability schedules), you also maximise the number of timetable slots open to you to reserve lessons on.
Who are the Learnissimo teachers?
The Learnissimo teachers come from all over the world. All teachers can apply to teach at Learnissimo. But in order to guarantee you the best teachers, we carry out strict selection, through linguistic tests (grammar, vocabulary, conjugation), on-line training for our learning methods and a validation of their presentation video by our team.
I wish to cancel a lesson I have booked. What do I need to do?
It’s very simple. You simply click on “cancel this lesson” in your personal space. The cancellation is free if you cancel sufficiently in advance (see conditions for cancelling a lesson).
Why do the lesson rates vary according to the teachers and who decides on these rates?
Each teacher sets his or her lesson fee (based on their skills, their experience, their lifestyle...). It’s up to you to choose the teacher who matches your requirements…and your wallet! Note that some teachers will give discounts for the first lesson you take with them.
What do I need to get started on Learnissimo?
To take lessons by videoconference with the Learnissimo teachers, you need a high-speed Internet connection and a webcam (with a built-in microphone). Using a microphone headset ensures optimal quality of communication.
Do I have to download a software ?
No. There is no software to download, Learnissimo uses Flash technology for the lesson by videoconference.
I am behind a firewall or a proxy. Is this a problem?
No, no problem. Our Flash technology uses the HTTP Tunnelling technique.
Can the lesson take place on Skype or MSN?
No, the lessons take place in the Learnissimo internal classrooms. In this way, during the lesson you can make use of the Learnissimo multimedia library (press articles, images for discussion, video excerpts…). You also have the possibility of stopping the lesson at any moment and only pay the time used up if the teacher doesn’t suit you.
What happens if my teacher is late / absent / incompetent the day of the lesson?
If your teacher doesn’t suit you, you can interrupt the lesson at any moment and only pay the elapsed time. Just click on “Interrupt the lesson now” in your classroom.
If your teacher is late or absent from one of your lessons, don't click on "Interrupt the lesson now", because Learnissimo detects automatically that your teacher did not log in to the classroom, and you will get all your credits back automatically.
Do the credits I buy expire after a certain time?
Yes, your credits expire if you haven’t booked a lesson during a period of 12 consecutive months. We therefore ask you to use your credits during this period to avoid losing them.
How do I pay my teacher?
The payment of your lesson takes place through a credit system, the credit being Learnissimo’s monetary unit (1 credit = 1 euro). On our secure payment site (payment by credit card or Paypal) you purchase the credits you need to reserve your lesson. Once the lesson is finished, Learnissimo automatically takes care of paying the teachers their fee. So, you don’t have to do anything. When your account no longer contains enough credits to pay for your next lesson, you must replenish your account.
I wish to give lessons on Learnissimo, what profile do I need to have and what do I need to do?
To become a teacher at Learnissimo, you must be motivated, open-minded, punctual, serious, patient, curious, like teaching and have enough time available to teach several hours a week.
Who decides on the fee for my lesson?
You do! To incite the students to choose you as a teacher, you can also choose to have a promotional fee for the first lesson so that students will preferably select you.
When and how am I paid?
The students pay for their lessons with you by purchasing credits on a secure site which will be transferred to your Learnissimo account once the lesson is finished. The Learnissimo commission is 20% of your lesson fee.
How does the lesson reservation schedule work?
As a teacher, you have a schedule which you must update as often as possible by indicating your availability times (30 minute slots) for the coming days. The more availability you indicate, the more chances you will have of your students reserving a lesson with you. Attention: only indicate slots for which you are certain to be available in the case of a reservation by a student.
How can I be certain that my students are going to pay me?
No problem. Your students must purchase their credits BEFORE reserving lessons with you. As Learnissimo is a trust service provider, you are sure of being paid for all the lessons you give (except in the case of lateness, absence or incompetence on your part, as reported by one of your students).
Can I cancel a lesson? What happens if I miss a lesson without giving notification?
When a student books a lesson with you in your availability schedule, you agree to be present at the lesson. However, if you need to cancel this lesson, you can do so by clicking on “cancel this lesson” in your personal space. But be careful, you will incur penalty credits (see conditions for the cancellation of a lesson). And your student may be unhappy and give you a bad evaluation.
How do I convert my Learnissimo credits into money ?
Credit conversion allows you to send your Learnissimo revenue directly to your bank account via one of our two payment solutions: Paypal or Moneybookers. Before requesting a payment, please make sure you have created a Paypal or Moneybookers account.
To convert credits into cash go to the “My Credits” page of your Learnissimo account and click on the “Convert credits into cash” button. (You may only cash out whole credits not partial credits). Make sure you enter the correct email address you used for your Paypal or Moneybooker account and submit your request. Your credits will be sent to your Paypal or Moneybookers account and then if you choose on to your bank account.
Learnissimo charges No Fee for transactions over 50 credits. Transactions less than 50 credits will be a low fixed price of 1 credit whatever the amount of the conversion. Thus you can transfer money as soon as your account contains at least two eligible credits.
